we savored the first few days of the new year by spending as much fun, family time together as we could fit in, because on january 5th we welcomed the newest pellegrini to our family. while my parents took the twins to school on monday morning, i was laying on the operating table "giving birth"! for the next four days, john and i hung out at the hospital with baby lyla and welcomed daily visits from jacks and livi.
by the end of the first day, we both acknowledged how thankful we were that it was "just" one baby this time. while a single baby is certainly difficult (there is still recovery, round the clock feedings, little sleep), we've quickly come to appreciate much more how crazy life was when we cared for newborn twins - constantly handing off babies to feed, diaper, and burp, and it seems like someone was always fussing so there was just never a break!

so they brought him a fully bodysuit |

| out came lyla at 8:30am |
 |
everyone thought she was huge,
but it was primarily due to her large head |

| she weighed in at 7lb, 14oz and 20 inches long |
 |
she had some extra fluid in her lungs (not uncommon in scheduled
c-sections), so she spent her first 6 hours in the NICU to be monitored |
 |
i really want to see her and, of course, 10 seconds
after we left i vomited in that tray in my lap |

they brought her to our room and
we finally got to hold her! |

we had talked to the kids about their trip to the hospital for so long, so
it was weird when the time finally came for their visit |

| they were a little weirded out but also really excited |

the highlight of their visit was definitely the hospital pantry that
supplied lyla's special gift to the twins - graham crackers! |

| they also spent a lot of their visit drinking my juice and chomping on ice |
 |
after about 20 minutes, they started getting distracted
by the many cords and buttons in the room |

after everyone left, we enjoyed hospital room service…
a burger and fries for john and juice and jello for me! |

livi left her bow in our room, so john showed her

she immediately wanted it back, and quickly
started lecturing lyla about not taking her stuff |

while we loved their daily visits, we also loved the
quiet that followed when they went home =) |
