oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree!

the past month has felt more crazy than usual.  within the span of two weeks we had several thanksgiving celebrations, a party for the kids' birthday and i ran my first marathon since becoming a mom.  thankfully, kim ran it too (we did it together 3 years ago!) so at least i had some extra motivation, and, even better, company on 12 weeks worth of early morning runs.

december means it's the holidays, which leads to lots of parties, festive activities, and online gift ordering!  john and i both love the holidays and hanging out with friends and families, but neither one of us has previously felt the need for our own christmas tree or our own family traditions.  because we have two little ones, we've realized that sharing those experiences with liv and jacks makes us want to put a bit more effort into the holiday.  and because john was hoping for a pint-sized tree that sat on a side table, the kids and i went out tree-shopping while he was at work!

hunting for the perfect first christmas tree

i think i'll take this one, mom
(when i sent this pic to john, he quickly told me not to trust my impulsive side)

we got a little side-tracked when we went searching for an atm...cash only!!

mesmerized

we couldn't wait to show dad when he got home from work...
totally worth the pine needles and fallen ornaments all over the floor!

maintaining his perfect tree

first stop the next morning - they wanted to make sure it was still there!

at a holiday street fair...and we spotted santa

we could not get any closer to the big red guy without tears

train ride - choo choo!!

say hi to daddy!

ready to visit santa with leanne!?

making sure santa knows how good they've been this year

the group pic...livi was terrified
and jacks wouldn't take his eyes off the scary man in back

shirts we made in leanne's honor...
jacks and liv are her 'wee man' and 'wee woman'

being silly for the photographer

look at me, look at me!

leanne brought over their gifts before she took off for home for 2 weeks

what are we gonna do for two whole weeks!?!

headed to my boss' family holiday party

we spotted a kitty...i kept trying to coax it out

but as it turns out, the kitty got a bit spooked
when faced with sudden toddler movements and squeals

it's 8pm, the kids are in bed, and all we want to do it is sit....
and then there is this face

i'm happy to report, livi and jacks have taken to all our favorite meals...
and burritos are no exception!

learning about pockets...the perfect place to keep little fingers safe from the chill

carbo-loading for the marathon...
despite the frigid weather, we braved the walk for bagels

kim and crew headed to the marathon expo

picked up race bibs for their first marathon

laying low for the afternoon to rest our legs

hot-tubbing

on the bus at 5am...and it's 28 degrees outside

while we were running, john was trying to ensure
terri and kelly's  house  remained exactly how we found it

merry christmas from the state capitol

little miss thang

the cheering section!!

we did it!  and we both had our best races yet!

all cleaned up and ready for brunch and HOT COFFEE

i ran 26.2 miles and i'm squished for two hours between this

and that
(and i'm just so jealous)

leanne treated us to some babysitting
so john and i could celebrate the race with a quiet night out

thanksgiving recap...better late than never

yes...thanksgiving was three weeks ago but we have been so busy lately and their birthday came up that i definitely have a backlog of pictures to post!

our week of festivities began with a thanksgiving potluck at miko's house to spend a nice sunday eating and watching football.  well, those without kids did that...we were either outside chasing our kids around or inside chasing balloons.  on the actual thanksgiving day we headed out as a family on the bus to just explore the city to take advantage of the empty streets.  thankfully, john had a phone and wallet in his pocket because we accidentally left our backpack with my phone and wallet, diapers, water and our house key at home...oops!  we capped off the week with a friday dinner visit from uncle mike, auntie keet and grandma vivi.  it was a great week of family time and constant reminders of all that we have to be thankful for!

miko's prior house tenants left this behind...perfect for us!

odin braves the drawbridge!

running around like turkeys with chloe

who knew balloons could be so much fun?

supporting tre and jeremy in the SI alumni game

fabulous, about 10 levels of 'balance beams'

thanksgiving morning...all dressed up and ready to hop on the bus

just warming up with a little dancing

yep, that's our girl!

three seats just for us!

first stop was union square to check out the big tree!

sadly, we couldn't convince john to get on the ice skating rink

finally have some seats after the crowded stretch through chinatown
(they are now true san franciscans!)

oh man, are we really two peas in a pod??

even hopped on a vintage trolley car

lunch at boudin's and a visit to fisherman's wharf

after a nice nap for all of us, it's time for the thanksgiving feast

homemade pizza - a family favorite!

i'm pretty sure they had a good time 'helping' in the kitchen

almost the same as turkey and stuffing...

winding down after a long fun day
with a milk for the kids and my house uniform

roughhousing with auntie keet!

the time had finally arrived...jacks needed a proper haircut

he was a trooper on my lap

john would not allow for liv to get a trim...
he's afraid all of her blond will be chopped off!

this ended up being the highlight of the haircut and the activity that ultimately brought out the tears
(he really really did not want to leave after 30 minutes!)

enjoying the half-time show

hmmm, what do we do now?

we won! we won!

we're going streaking through the quad to the gymnasium!

our sweet boy

more football!!

thankfully, nikki never turns our family away from her tailgate

leanne and gregory teaching jacks how it is done

someone wanted attention and sat over the hole...
nothing that a little tug and slide can't fix

nowhere near our actual seats, but the kids love to climb
the stairs so this is often where the three of us end up

the view can't be beat

riding high with her daddy

who knew the airport train could be so fun!

who wouldn't want to sit in this box?

not the quite the hiding place she was hoping for

early morning walk to the park

bones gets to sniff and the kids get to play

introducing deep dish pizza...

thankfully, they approved

pizza-making with leanne and gregory

cleaning our ice cream cups

shadow puppets!!

hanging with their bff

they're favorite baby at the zoo

i can't get enough of that pellegrini beauty
