maui: part one

we had such a wonderful trip to maui and can see why people only have great things to say about this island!  we were a tad nervous about how it would all go, especially the plane ride, but we were pleasantly surprised with how smoothly everything went.  lugging around two car seats, two carriers, and two babies was not always the easiest but people around us sure got a kick out of it - we were definitely a spectacle to be seen.  i'm not sure how many times we heard, "wow, you guys are brave".  thankfully, our little ones made it easy on us - they ate during take-off and landing, and in between, they slept, "played" with their toy dragonfly, or stared at the other passengers as we strolled down the aisles on the plane.

i instantly fell in love with our hotel upon seeing the full washer and dryer in our room - wow, how my priorities have changed!  we had plenty of space for the four of us and were right next to the kiddie pool, which proved convenient since we were always in and out of our room for feedings, diaper changes and occasional naps.  we spent the first two days mostly in the shade taking in the blue water and sunny skies and were giddy with excitement when john's parents arrived as we realized a couple extra hands would go a long way.  with grandma and grandpa in the room next door, john and i were able to go for a few morning runs, spend some time in the sun, and enjoy a beachside cocktail.  after each relaxing day, all six of us headed out to a nice dinner and an early bedtime (since we were up at 6am each morning!).

hanging around the house

this past week the weather has been awful with non-stop rain so we haven't made it outside much.  this means more tummy time, stitting in the bumbo chair and playing on the activity mat.  we head to maui on saturday so it's been nice to take it easy this week in preparation of the adventure that awaits us!

3 months!

i feel like it was just yesterday i was posting about them being two months...time is just whizzing by!  they are still not thrilled when we prop them in a chair for their portraits - they go from smiles to looks of terror in an instant.

to celebrate three months, we cracked open their bumbo chairs, which help them sit up on their own.  their head control has been getting stronger so figured we'd give it a try and they did awesome.  they seemed a little shocked that they were sitting by themselves but also appeared to enjoy it!  we were able to rent two bumbos in maui, which i think will be perfect to use under the sun umbrella...expect lots of great pictures when we get back!

we've been fortunate to have terrific sleepers (must get it from their dad).  they've been sleeping through the night since they were two months old, so this week we decided to move them to the nursery and see what happens.  they've been in our room sharing a crib since the beginning and we figured three months sounded like a good age to transition them.  we didn't mind them sleeping next to us but were excited to get a little space back in our cluttered pig pen of a bedroom.  i think my mom almost fainted every time she went in there to drop off laundry!  they've now been in their own room and even their own cribs for a few days and they've been champs - success!

weekend family fun

the city had the best weather this past weekend so we were sure to get outside and take advantage of it!  john didn't have to work all weekend so we were able to enjoy some family time, which can feel rushed on weeknights since there isn't much time between when john gets home and the last feed of the night.  however, we've been super lucky because the babies do fall asleep around 10pm and don't wake up until 6:30am-ish.  on saturday and sunday, i ended up waking everyone at 7am because i was ready to start the day!  i think even bones gave me a dirty look when i pulled the blinds up!  here are some pictures from our weekend activities...
