guest post: papa's in charge

last week julie went on a trip for 36 hours to exotic utah, leaving her dependents (jackson, olivia, and yours truly) to fend for ourselves.  to answer your first question: yes, the babies are fine.  but when the cat's away, the mice will play.  the three of us watched basketball,  ordered pizza, practiced acrobatics, and even managed to do some legal work.  when mama came home from her trip, jackson and olivia told her they had "an absolutely phenomenal time with dad."  their words.  turns out caring for two babies by yourself is not that difficult ... at least not when you invite over your mom, brother, and sister-in-law to help!

12 weeks old

as the babies approach twelve weeks old, they are starting to smile and coo a lot more.  it's so much fun to watch them grow and develop so quickly!  of course, with them smiling, john and i are constantly grinning as well.  earlier this week, i headed to salt lake city for 36 hours for work...i had a great time but missed all of my babies back home!  john promises to do a guest post soon to share his experience as a single father.

wedding weekend fun!

we had such an amazing time this weekend!   the festivities for ari and kelly's wedding started off on friday night and didn't end until monday morning.  it was so much fun to be a part of one of our favorite couple's special weekend.

the most intimate and personal ceremony we've been to

ari was in the same freshman dorm as me and john so we've known him for over ten years now and have gotten to know a lot of his friends and family as well.  sephren and scott were also there, making the day extra special since these four boys lived together all through our time at stanford.

ari and kelly were extra sweet and provided two babysitters to watch olivia and jackson at the wedding.  we made sure we dressed them in their finest clothes since this was a very special occasion and we even managed to sneak them downstairs to get a family shot in the photo booth!

happy valentines day!

our valentines day tradition continues this year with our favorite - pizza!  john is picking up some deep dish after work and we'll celebrate our way - watching dvr'd gossip girl in pajamas with two smiling babies and a crazy dog.  this morning john said, sorry but i didn't plan anything for today...i said, no worries every day is valentines day for us sweetie.  we both got a huge laugh out of that one!

don't worry john, i swear jacks loves you

liv's typical expression...
and as john tells me, stop that or you're going to get wrinkles!

finally, both cooperating...such captivating smiles =)

happy v-day everyone!

although i am loving my runs with bones, some mornings i just need an extra hour of sleep before john heads to work so poor B is left with a crappy trip to the backyard to pee.  because of his issues with other dogs and people, it's just not a smart idea to walk the babies and bones together in our neighborhood by myself.  so to get a good walk in for bones, the four of us get in the car and head out to the remote areas of the presidio where nobody else is around.  with the babes in the stroller and bones on his leash, we get to go on a nice long walk complete with tons of greenery to sniff and mark.  while the whole outing takes a couple of hours, it's definitely worth it to see a happy and tired dog!

one of me and bones' favorite scenic points

for the past week, liv and jacks have been extending their stretches of sleep at night.  we've had several times where they go to sleep around 10:00pm and wake up around 6am.  it is amazing how much better we feel with a little more uninterrupted sleep!

welcome home from work, honey - now hold the babies!

best friends yet??

john's parents came to visit this weekend and it was so nice to see them!  they hadn't seen the babes since early january so they really enjoyed seeing how much they had changed and how heavy they are now.  we're also thrilled because they are headed to maui with us in march.  now it will definitely be a vacation with a couple extra sets of hands to assist!

2 months already!

the babies turned two months old on february 6....we can't believe how fast time has flown by and how much they are changing and developing.  they are focusing on objects now and are starting to coo and smile, which melts our hearts every time!

to celebrate the occasion we decided to give them a great gift - a trip to the doctor, complete with three vaccinations!  the doc was very pleased with their weights (jacks at 9lb 14oz and liv at 9lbs 8oz) and overall they are as healthy as can be.  our homework between now and their 4 month appointment is to do lots and lots of tummy time.  this strengthens their neck and arm muscles so that they can control their head, roll over and eventually crawl.  unfortunately, tummy time is not their favorite activity - although they are tolerating it much better now that we're using a fun activity mat courtesy of raylo and james.

so to sum up their 2 month birthday, we forced them to take tons of posed photos, stuck them with needles and made them scream on their tummies - thankfully, they can't speak as they'd for sure be saying "you are the meanest parents ever!"  i know we'll hear that phrase many times throughout our lives, but we're happy to have a couple of years before that happens.
