two very special date nights

jacks and livi are always together.  they sleep in the same room, eat together, and even often pee side by side.  i've always wanted to institute some type of separate one on one time with John and me but on the weekends we just love hanging out together as a foursome.  occasionally, one will go with me to get groceries or one will go with john to walk the dog.  but for the first time, we decided to separate and have a special date with our favorite (kidding!) child.  both jacks and liv wanted to ride the bus, so john headed one way and jacks and i headed the other way.  it was so much fun to be able to focus our attention on just one kid (and it was much less chaotic!).  we hope to continue these special dates and expand to something even bigger than ice cream (dinner maybe??  gasp!).

we took two buses to get to our favorite frozen yogurt shop

it was worth the long travel time

one chocolate-almond butter-english toffee yogurt and two spoons

tastes soooo good!

he was so excited to get back on the bus
(didn't even finish his treat!)

liv and john headed west on the bus to our favorite ice cream shop

Toy  Boat's newest model

john went hog-wild and got livi some sprinkles

what a cutie pie!

a trip to toy boat is not complete without a pony ride

when john and liv were back 5 minutes before jacks and i,
livi tried to feed jacks'  best friend ("ah ah") to bones!

a few days later we did a group date

the kids and i made it down to fillmore street where john was meeting us from work

it was so cold, that we got some warm milk while waiting for john

secured some prime seating at pizzeria delfina

headed across the street for some tasty cupcakes

window seat

rainbow cupcake with strawberry cream cheese frosting

no complaints here!
(well, john did whine that his mint-chocolate chip cookie,
cream cheese frosting sandwich was too sweet...not sure what he expected!)

friday afternoon starbucks date

so grown up

washed their milk down with sliced apples

headed to the park for some bike riding

of course they spotted a toddler-sized 'tunnel'

the perfect fit

livi was taking too long on the pot so we moved her

she directed us from her throne while we cleaned out the garage

water play on a hot day

hot stuff

train play at the discovery museum

peek-a-boo

a special exhibit at the museum

he was asked to serve as a young stuntman in the next big hollywood blockbuster

cruisin'

a little detour from the bike path

a birthday celebration at the park

cucpcake cheers!

a morning snuggle and story

couldn't do it without your help, jacks!

liv could barely push him an inch

john is everyone's favorite to play with
(this is bones' play face that he reserves for john once the kids go to sleep)

everyone likes a good game of tug-of-war

livi requires active attention while playing...

jacks just wants you to keep your legs straight so that
they can serve as his train tracks

a favorite family meal of bread, cheese, berries and avocado
(easy but also tasty)

while looking at old photos on the computer,
jacks' hands gravitated to livi's head

i don't think he even≤÷ realized he was giving her a head/hair "massage"

he was so excited to play that he couldn't wait the 30 seconds for me to help pull up his pants

out in marin with samantha and mackenzie

hunting for the perfect easter basket with leanne

hiding all the eggs before the rest of the park crew arrives

and the egg dash begins!

the easter bunny overslept, so we spent easter morning at the carwash

followed by "brunch" at the coffee shop across from the car wash

strutting down divisadero

such a hipster

my view while going to the bathroom

the easter bunny made a special visit during their nap

they searched high and low for pairs of eggs

they were pretty good about only taking one at each hiding spot

30+ eggs surprisingly go pretty quickly

stickers, mini animal toys, prunes, and a two prized mini kit-kats

enjoying her bounty

sugared up and covered in stickers

a successful easter egg hunt at home

we've gotten back into family runs - they lasted 8 miles!

enjoying their music and bagels

even bones joins in the fun!

the firehouse is a 1/2 block from home...
after our runs, we often find the trucks out getting a deep clean

had to separate the two for naps a few times
because he would NOT lay down and go to sleep

after 1.5 hours of sleeplessness,
i brought him downstairs thinking no nap for the day

after 5 min of watching scandal, he passed out
(not sure how, it was so suspenseful!)

jacks isn't the only one who likes to nap on the couch
