a week without leanne

last week leanne and her husband headed home for a family wedding so i took a few days off of work to hang out with livi and jacks.  i definitely had a blast but was also incredibly exhausted at the end of each day (12 hrs on my own is tiring!).  needless to say, we were all excited for leanne's return!

john joined me tuesday morning for their regular story time class at the library.  we got to meet all of leanne's friends and the little ones they take care of - i had seen pictures of their adventures but it was great to experience it first hand.  i also braved it on my own and took them to a music class the next day.  they got to play with a bunch of little instruments and make some noise which was fun to watch.  during singing time, each mom plopped her baby in her lap...except for me.  being the only one with two babies, i just sat them both in front of me and sang along (it was pretty comical), but once i realized that all jacks wanted to do was shake and lick his tambourine, i put livi on my lap and joined the moms in "if you're happy and you know it..."

in other news, livi has officially started crawling...in a forward direction!  she used to only reverse when up on her knees but now she's moving forward and is sporting the hugest smile while she's doing it.  i've been getting her to practice by tempting her with the tv remote across the room which thankfully she can never resist.  jacks' second tooth should pop through any day now, and lucky for us all, he isn't complaining about it.  his mobility is quite impressive too - he's climbing onto the fireplace and other steps (unfortunately tumbling off too...well, just the first time when i was trying to take a picture) and he also likes to show off his balance by pulling himself up into a standing position and then holding on one-handed!

the babies have always enjoyed their little plastic tub, but nothing compares to their smiles in the big bath!  with a few inches of water and tons of little cups, they literally go wild.  cups are in both hands and shoved in their mouths.  they then proceed to flail their arms around throwing water all over the tub and us.  unfortunately, the uncontrolled flailing often results in smacking the other baby in the head...oops!  logistically it takes some coordination, especially when i'm alone, but it's definitely worth it to watch how much fun they have.

fun with friends - big and small!

we've been spending lots of time hanging out with friends (big and little), hitting up the parks and relaxing at home.  the other weekend, we met up with mary and duane down at stanford to walk around the campus and grab lunch.  after much begging on the babies' part, we shared our story of how mommy and daddy met almost 13 years ago...we even showed them our freshman dorm! 

we also got to finally meet bea and teddy and their parents!  leanne is good friends with their nanny una, so our babies see each other ALL the time.  i had seen pictures of them and heard stories but meeting them was so much fun!  their parents, betsy and ryan, were also awesome and we actually spent close to 2 hours at the park just talking and hanging out.  they're three months older than jacks and livi so it's nice to get some tips and tricks from them since they're going through all the stages right before us.  betsy even gave me a step by step of how she gives them a joint bath.  stay tuned for pics of the bath in next week's post, and don't say i didn't warn you...they will definitely melt your heart.
