john turns 35!

there is not much new to report in pellegrini land, except that john turned 35!  a few months ago we had discussed doing something "exciting" for our big birthdays this year, but then as it got closer, we both realized i) we didn't care about doing anything "exciting" and ii) we didn't have the bandwidth to put towards party planning.  instead, john slept in as late as he could, we had special visitors from bellevue, the kids and i made oreo cupcakes, and we enjoyed a quiet day with family. i think john is hoping 35 will bring him more sleep and time...such a big imagination he has!

on a separate note, the kids are quite inquisitive these days, but answering a million questions gets boring, so we try to turn it around and ask them what they think. while making a sandwich the other day, they asked how you make peanut butter, and when I asked their opinion, this is what they said:

jacks - well, first you ask an elephant for some peanuts, then you put the peanuts in a blender to mix it up, and then you let it dry out in the sun.

livi – well you need a pen!s…like a real one, like jacks’ pen!s, and then you mix it up and add oil. (as she chuckles…)

4 years + 2 months...and 1 year + 1 month!

we're just coming off a fun, long weekend, and we had a great time spending a lot of time together as a family. jacks and livi have (typically) been in great moods lately, and go along with wherever we take them, like aaron brothers, the car wash, trader joes...you know, where every kid dreams of spending time. they've also been playing together well, even entertaining themselves for quite awhile without any adult intervention (woohoo!). for instance, when john was shaving today, they were pretending to be santa and riding on their "sled," which was the toilet....

lyla has been doing great. she's picking up speed while walking and i made the mistake of letting her loose in target yesterday...she'd disappear so quickly behind a rack of clothes and then pop out the other side right into oncoming shopping carts.  she's still obsessed with bones: "bo" is still her only word and is the first thing she says when she wakes up (literally while laying in her crib in the dark...even at 5:30am, we chuckle in bed when we hear her on the monitor).

can you even find livi??

they asked me what the word "dimple" meant, and
my description of "a hole in your cheek" didn't cut it

so we took some photos to see some real life dimples
