may 2017...a month that will live in infamy

i feel like 2017 has been a more stressful year than most...or it may just be my attitude towards it.  i should have known that a year that starts with trump becoming president was not going to be a great year.  while john reminds me there has been a lot of good too, it just seems like beyond regular work and life stress, this year has been quite a roller coaster.

the month of may seems to take the cake.  i have literally spent the past four weeks sick with a persistent cough and cold that i just can't shake. i've been training for a marathon for almost 4 months, and with 2 easy weeks of training to go, i pull my hamstring and won't be able to run the race. uncle mike and auntie keet moved from sf to the east bay, and jacks and livi finished preschool (while they're ready for kindergarten, i'm not sure i'm ready to leave our beloved preschool).

worst of all, after several vet consultations and procedures, we recently learned bones has a tumor in his neck that looks like thyroid cancer. due to it's size and location, there isn't too much that can be done so we're looking at a few more months with him. now that we're past the uncertainty and shock of it all, we're trying to make bones comfortable and enjoy the time we have left. so yes, may 2017 kinda sucked.

but alas, today is our wedding anniversary, so it's time to change my debbie downer attitude and be thankful for my wonderful husband and the life we've created as a family.  here's to hoping june is a more joyful month!

my sunday morning runs were filled with pretty amazing views
(now i'm back to sitting on the couch while recovering)

the cheering squad

i managed a genuine smile as i approached the
finish of 10 long miles

on our walk back to the car,
we stopped off to visit some friends

naptime after a busy morning

time to make some pumpkin bread!

taste tester approved

a cute pic from after their day at lyft

sheila was out a couple of days,
so john and i alternated staying home from work

i was able to do a little work while these two played outside

careful, lyla!  i don't think a choke hold is
going to help bones with his breathing

john's day with lyla included a visit to his favorite cafe near preschool

croissants and coffee

play-doh time...looks like a yummy bagel...or donut?

introducing her puppy to bones

waiting to pick up jacks and livi from school

the  kids' class was obsessed with john denver this year

lyla is in heaven at school...
too bad she has to wait another year

shenanigans at soccer practice

snack break at a crayfish boil

no, lyla, we can't bring him home

on the move!

even though they have a whole sidewalk,
they end up walking this close together =)

she's ready to go!

spelling practice

of all the places to eat your bully, bones...

i chose my bed for an afternoon nap

john choose the floor with a fireplace pillow

relaxin' and snackin' outside

books with abuelo

like father like son...i've seen abuelo's expression on john many times before

snap circuits

perfecting their salad making skills

i will definitely miss this as a response to my
question: "what did you learn at school today?"

we teach our kids young
how to pull their weight in this family

bones got a new stand for his food bowl!

practicing bike and scooter skills

after one day without training wheels, livi was off on her own!

however, she could only go straight...
i'm happy to say she can now turn without tipping over

these sf kids are not used to the heat and needed many water breaks

while his muzzle makes him look like hannibal lector...

he's actually really calm and sweet at the vet and usually naps the whole time

meeting the oncologist (appointment #4 in 10 days)

apparently he and/or his veins were not cooperative,
so his poor arm was all bruised up

when bones wasn't interested in dinner,
sweet lyla fed him one kibble at a time

we're now making sure he gets to do a lot of his favorite things, like
hanging out in the sun (but not overheating)...

taking naps with his humans...

exploring the presidio...

venturing up to his favorite hill...

making new friends...

and plenty of snuggling in the evening
