a perfect way to end the summer

we headed to santa barbara for labor day weekend to visit my parents.  we definitely lucked out with the gorgeous weather and spent most of our time hanging out in the backyard in our bathing suits - not something we EVER do in san francisco.  i think we all had a wonderful time...our only wish was that we could have stayed longer!

on the road with our iPad mini wedged between the front seats

quick stop for lunch before finishing up the long drive

everyone was eager to see the newest member of the hull family, uco!

they were given the task of watering the dry patches in the yard

but they couldn't resist a little water fight

don't worry - after a few minutes, the hose was shut off given the water shortage
what?  we're not allowed to waste water by making a mud pit?!

giving his truck a good wash

fueling up on yogurt and berries

refining their golden tans

three generations of ladies went shopping on state street…first stop, nordy's!

liv was happy at sephora once she got to try on some pink gloss

no shopping excursion is complete without a stop for  pastries

she was such a trooper during the 3 hour outing,
which included maternity clothes shopping and lots of potty breaks

meanwhile, the boys were at home watching football
and eating leftover pizza (…in their pajamas)

uco got jealous of how much attention the truck was getting

when i loaded all our pictures, 50% were of uco (and i didn't take them!)

hmmm, somebody's in love

action shot!

irresistable

an amazing dinner at los agaves put john and i in a food coma,
but these two were full of beans

i guess endless baskets of chips and salsa give them a big boost of energy

on our way home from dinner, we made a quick stop at the park

they love practicing their balance

and playing on new and exciting play structures

just relaxin' in the sun

puppy breath

breakfast at the beach

yogurt, granola and fruit

digging for pineapple

sunday stroll to check out the local art

mesmerized

horsie?  yes, please!

the ladies

the fellas

it's not a vacation if there's no ice cream

cookies and cream

they split a single scoop and it was still huge!

john and i shared a chocolate dipped waffle cone…it's vacation, right?

time to head up the street to check out the neighbor's donkeys

taking a closer look

twins

picking some lemons in the backyard with papa bob

best buddies

family dinner on the patio

playing outside in the dirt without shoes or pants meant showers every evening

grandma susie would be proud of their squeegee skills

these three giggle machines snuggled up to watch a daniel the tiger episode before bed

good-bye santa barbara - see you soon!

meanwhile bones had a thrilling labor day at camp

he did get to spend the holiday eating hot dogs so no complaints from him!
