best friends forever?!

our toddlers are really interacting with each other more and more these days.  they are often caught laughing together, copying something silly the other one is doing (like banging their head on the wall...not sure why that's so funny, but to each their own), and even bringing one of their prized possessions over to their sibling if they happen to need some cheering up.

while i'd love to say it's all sharing and caring with these two, the terms "no snatching" and "your turn is next" are becoming all too commonplace around the house.  the only things that are really designated as truly belonging to one of them are livi's baby and jackson's lovey and green block.  that means everything else belongs to the family so lots of negotiation takes place, which can go a few different ways:

  1) jacks wants a coveted toy that livi is holding, so....jacks finds a similar but different toy and approaches her eagerly with his hand out saying "tah tah" (which means thank you...in this case, it's really thank you in advance for what i'm about to take from you).  as she gets distracted by this offering, he makes the swap, snatches the coveted toy and trots off proud of his "polite" exchange.  thankfully, livi usually walks it off and doesn't know (or care) he pulled a fast one on her.

  2) jacks wants a coveted toy that livi is holding and she knows it, so...she tightens her hold and tucks it in like a football and runs while he chases her whining and looks to us for intervention. we can usually distract him with something else, unless it's his green block, in which case we try to coax her into voluntarily giving it up.

  3) livi wants a coveted toy that jacks has so...she usually goes over whining at him saying "uh uh" hoping he'll give it up.  the other morning when that tactic didn't work, she began smacking him on top of his head....fabulous.
