on tuesday, december 6, we went in for a routine doctor appointment at 36 weeks and ended up scheduled for a c-section that night - thank goodness we had bags packed!
the c-section went well and thankfully jackson and olivia were healthy and big (6lbs and 6lbs, 2oz) so we were thrilled! unfortunately for me, due to an overstretched uterus (i did have more than 12 pounds of baby in there!), I started losing lots of blood and required transfusions of blood. ultimately, I made a trip back to the OR to get the bleeding under control and woke up the next morning looking like I was hit by a bus! needless to say, the first few days of my recovery were really rough, but thankfully, john is the best husband and dad i could have hoped for. i don't think i changed a diaper or swaddled a baby until several days later!
it's been about a week and half now and the family is doing great! we've headed out each day, whether it's for doctor appointments or walks around the neighborhood to get some exercise and fresh air. over the past week, it's been great bonding and getting to know their little personalities. jackson has been super mellow, sleeps a lot and reminds us a bit more of his dad. on the other hand, olivia can be a bit more feisty (and at times fussy), which my mom claims is how I was as a baby. we are so excited that they are finally here and know that our lives will never be the same...
